A Golf GameBook alternative for society golf

If you run a society, a club roll-up or a trip on Golf GameBook and the subscription, the ads or getting everyone onto the app has worn thin, score70 does the job differently. Your players need no app and no account, there is nothing to pay, there are no ads, and it keeps scoring with no signal.

  • No app, no accountPlayers open one link and tap their name.
  • No subscriptionFree, with no player cap and no card.
  • No adsNot even a banner on the 18th.
  • No signal? Keep scoringScores wait on the phone and send themselves.

Why people look

What sends golfers looking for something else

  • The price. Its website prices Gold in euros: €59.99 a year or €19.99 a month, renewing automatically. The Gold page lists tournaments and live leaderboards among the benefits; which of these are free is not fully clear from the page.[1]
  • The app. Players without the app can’t score for themselves: someone else scores them as an “unregistered player”.[2]
  • Ads. “So many ads & pop up screens” (Google Play, 1 star, August 2026).[3]

Plenty of golfers are happy on Golf GameBook: “live leaderboard is brilliant”, says one App Store review (August 2026).[4] This page is for the ones who are not.

Switching takes an evening

Moving your group across

  1. Make the organiser accountA name, an email and a password. Nobody else signs up.
  2. Paste your player listCopy the names and handicap indexes out of your old app or spreadsheet and use “Paste a list” on Players: one “Name 14” line each.
  3. Pick the courseSearch under “Where are you playing?”. More than 1,800 UK courses are in already.
  4. Send the linkShare it to the WhatsApp group. Each player taps their name and starts scoring.

Be clear-eyed

What you would give up

  • The social feed, following friends and watching their rounds.[5]
  • GPS, detailed stats and the Apple Watch and Wear OS apps.[6][1][2]
  • Foursomes and greensomes, and the Duplicate and Erado games.[7]
  • Official score posting, if you play in Sweden, Finland, Spain, Iceland or Denmark.[8]

And on score70’s side of the ledger:

  • No GPS, distances, shot tracking or watch app.
  • No official score posting: rounds do not go to England Golf or your WHS record.
  • No nearest-the-pin or longest-drive markers yet, no TV board yet.
  • No foursomes or greensomes yet.
  • Fewer courses than the big apps: more than 1,800 UK courses, with the card typed in for anywhere else.
  • No social feed, by design, and no push notifications.
