score70 vs Golf GameBook
Golf GameBook calls itself the “#1 Golf Scorecard & Social App”.[1]
It is a native app with a social feed, and it rated 4.7 stars from about 1,700 ratings on the UK App Store when we checked.[1][2]
score70 is a web page and a live leaderboard for one group’s day, trip or season. The difference that matters most on a society day is who has to install what.
The short answer
Who each one suits
Golf GameBook suits you if…
- You want one app for every round you play, with GPS, stats and a watch.
- Your group enjoys the social side: a feed, likes and following each other.
- You play in Sweden, Finland, Spain, Iceland or Denmark and want scores posted there.
- Your trip wants foursomes or greensomes in a Ryder Cup today.
score70 suits you if…
- Half the society will not download another app, and you are tired of keeping score for the players who do not have it.
- You want every format and board without a subscription.
- The course has patchy signal and the cards still have to add up.
- You play British society formats like Bowmaker or Russian Stableford, or run a season table.
Credit where it is due
What Golf GameBook does well
- A native app for iPhone and Android, with Apple Watch and Wear OS support.[3][4]
- A social side score70 deliberately does not have: a feed, following friends and watching their rounds.[1]
- A large course list: about 40,000 courses by its own count (other pages on its site give 42,000 or about 48,000).[1]
- Twenty formats, including foursomes and greensomes in match play, Irish Rumble and its own Duplicate and Erado games.[5]
- Reds vs Blues, a Ryder Cup style event for up to 72 players over up to 6 rounds.[6]
- Its own GGB Handicap, and official score posting in Sweden, Finland, Spain, Iceland and Denmark.[7]
- Tournament Manager, a separate web tool for clubs, with registration, entry-fee payments, TV leaderboards and nearest-the-pin and longest-drive contests.[8]
- Reviewers like its live leaderboard: “live leaderboard is brilliant” (App Store review, August 2026).[9]
Side by side
score70 and Golf GameBook, feature by feature
| score70 | Golf GameBook |
|---|---|
| Do players need the app? | |
| No. Players open the link in the browser their phone already has. | The organiser and whoever keeps score use the app. Players without it can be added as “unregistered players” and scored by someone else.[4] |
| Do players need an account? | |
| No. Each player taps their name once. Only the organiser has an account. | Yes, for anyone scoring in the app. A guest has no view of their own without it.[4] |
| Cost for a 12 to 40 player day | |
| Free. No plans, no player cap, no card. Nothing is held back for a paid tier, because there is no paid tier. | The app is free. Gold is €59.99 a year or €19.99 a month after a 14-day trial, renewing automatically. The Gold page lists 20 formats, tournaments, Reds vs Blues and live leaderboards among its benefits; which of these are free is not fully clear from the page.[10] |
| Ads | |
| None. | Ads in the free version, according to reviews.[11] |
| Formats | |
| 24 formats, including Bowmaker, Irish Rumble, Russian Stableford, Texas scramble with minimum drives, 1-2-3, Vegas and a Ryder Cup board. No foursomes or greensomes yet. | Twenty, including foursomes, greensomes, Irish Rumble and Reds vs Blues.[5] |
| Handicaps | |
| World Handicap System course handicaps from each tee’s slope and course rating, with the allowance for each format shown. | Its own GGB Handicap index (best 8 of 20); course handicaps in a round use the WHS method.[7][12] |
| Posts scores to an official handicap record | |
| No. score70 works out the handicaps for the day but does not post scores to England Golf or any other body. | In Sweden, Finland, Spain, Iceland and Denmark. England Golf is not on its list.[7] |
| Scoring with no signal | |
| Yes. Scores are saved on the phone first and send themselves when signal comes back. | Not documented on the pages we read. One App Store review in August 2026 asks for offline play.[9] |
| Courses | |
| More than 1,800 UK courses, over 1,500 of them with WHS course and slope ratings already in. Anywhere else, you type the card in once. | About 40,000 by its own count.[1] |
| Men and women on different tees in one group | |
| Yes. Each player plays their own tee in the same group, with women’s par, stroke index and ratings where the club rates them. | Not documented on the pages we read |
| Season or league table | |
| Yes, free: a season table on a best-of rule, weekly pairs or teams, and fixed league handicaps if you want them. | Tour and ranking competitions are part of Tournament Manager, its separate tool for clubs.[8] |
| GPS, stats, watch | |
| No GPS, no shot tracking and no watch app. It is a scorecard and a leaderboard. | Yes: GPS, detailed stats (in Gold) and Apple Watch and Wear OS apps.[3][10][4] |
| Nearest the pin, longest drive | |
| Not yet. | Nearest-the-pin and longest-drive contests in Tournament Manager.[8] |

In their users’ words
What reviewers say
- “Awesome to watch mates scores come in as they play” (App Store, August 2026).[9]
Individual reviews from the app stores, quoted as written. One review is one person’s experience.
Plainly
What score70 does not do
- No GPS, distances, shot tracking or watch app.
- No official score posting: rounds do not go to England Golf or your WHS record.
- No nearest-the-pin or longest-drive markers yet, no TV board yet.
- No foursomes or greensomes yet.
- Fewer courses than the big apps: more than 1,800 UK courses, with the card typed in for anywhere else.
- No social feed, by design, and no push notifications.
What it does do, it does without asking anything of the players: one link, a tap on their name, and they are scoring.
Free, and nothing for the players to install
Try it on your next round
Make the organiser account, add the players and the course, and send one link to the group. Everyone else just taps their name.
