Irish Rumble
Four play their own stableford as one team, and the number of scores that counts climbs as the round goes on: the best one on holes 1 to 6, two on 7 to 12, three on 13 to 17 and all four on the 18th.
- 2–4 players
- Own ball
- One team
How it’s scored
- Everyone plays their own ball and scores stableford points off their own handicap.
- Holes 1–6 the best 1 score counts, 7–12 the best 2, 13–17 the best 3, and on the 18th all four.
- The team total is the counting scores added up. Several teams on the day compare totals.
- It is 1-2-3 with a slower wheel, and is set up from the same tile.

The 18th is where it is settled: every card counts, so nobody can hide behind the other three. The same eighteen holes on a 1-2-3 wheel make 80.

The fine print
What if there are only three of us?
Every card the team has counts where the round asks for more. On the 18th a three-ball counts its three scores, not three and a nought. When the other teams are fours, Even up teams rests one of each four a hole in turn, so every team counts the same.
What about nine holes?
The bands squeeze to fit: the best one on holes 1–3, two on 4–6, three on 7–8 and all four on the 9th. A back nine reads the same way from the 10th.
Can we change the bands?
Yes. The rotation is a box on the match card, one number a hole. Irish Rumble only fills it in for you.
When does a hole count?
Once every card in the team is in. Your own card still goes on the stableford and birdie boards as usual.
