1-2-3 (Cha Cha Cha)

Four play their own stableford as one team; the best one card counts on the first hole, the best two on the second, all three on the third, then round again.

  • 2–4 players
  • Own ball
  • One team

How it’s scored

  1. Everyone plays their own ball and scores stableford points.
  2. By hole number, not by par: hole 1 the best 1 card, hole 2 the best 2, hole 3 the best 3, hole 4 the best 1 again.
  3. The team total is the counting cards added up over the round.
  4. Also called Cha Cha Cha, or Waltz. Same game.

The fine print

What makes the rotation a game?

A bad hole from three of you is survivable and a bad hole from all four is not. Hartley’s eight at the second costs nothing because only two count there; at the third every card but one is in.

Who does the team play against?

The course, or another team’s total on the same day. There is nothing to lead and nothing to close out. One team and no opponent means it does not go on the Ryder Cup board, which is two sides by definition; the same rotation can run a team day across the trip instead.

When does a hole count?

Once every card is in. Your own card still goes on the stableford and birdie boards as usual.
