Sixes
One four-ball playing three six-hole better-ball matches: holes 1–6, 7–12 and 13–18, with a different partner each time, so everybody partners everybody once.

How it’s scored
- Holes 1–6 you and one partner, 7–12 you and the next, 13–18 you and the last.
- Each six is a better-ball match: the better net of each pair plays the hole.
- Win the hole and you both get a point. A halved hole is nothing to anybody.
- Your score for the round is the points you took across the three matches. Most points wins.
- The app fixes the rotation from the players in the round, so nobody has to agree it on the first tee.

Handicaps
The four-ball number: everyone plays off the lowest handicap in the group and gets 90% of the gap up to them, worked once for the whole round so your shots do not move at the 7th.

The fine print
Why exactly four?
Because the game is three partnerships and there are only three ways to split four players into two pairs. Five has no rotation and three has no partner to change, so the app asks for four before the round starts rather than scoring nonsense afterwards.
What happens on a nine-hole round?
It is cut into three threes: 1–3, 4–6 and 7–9. Keeping the six would mean only two of the three partnerships were ever played, and a game whose whole point is that everybody partners everybody should not quietly drop a third of itself.
Who decides the partners?
The app, from the players in the round, in a fixed order that every phone works out the same way. Nothing is stored and nothing can be re-drawn, so there is no argument and no round trip.
Can a six-hole match finish early?
Yes. Four up with two to play is 4&2 and the card says so, exactly as a full match play round would. The holes still score for everyone’s own stableford.
